Located 10 minutes north of Lower Downtown Denver, real estate in Wheat Ridge borders other popular neighborhoods, including Berkley and the Highlands. Located in Jefferson County, Wheat Ridge has a population of 33,000 and neighbors Arvada, Golden and Lakewood. Wheat Ridge is part of the Regional Transportation District´s FasTracks program, and a proposed 11.2-mile transit line that would start at Denver´s Union Station and end in Wheat Ridge. Construction is expected to start in 2011 and finish in 2016. The city´s rich cultural history and stories of pioneers and miners is chronicled by the Wheat Ridge Historical Society. The city also supports the arts through special events, including Performances in the Park, and a public arts program that displays artwork in both interior and exterior locations. Along with history and culture, parks and open space are abundant in this area near the western foothills. The city boasts more than 20 parks, equestrian trails, and Jefferson County Open Space areas for the public to explore, including the 300-acre Wheat Ridge Greenbelt trail system, featuring the 6.5-mile Clear Creek Trail, designated a National Recreation Trail in 2007 by National Recreational Trails USA. Recognized for its conservation efforts, the Clear Creek Trail offers access to kayaking, biking, walking and bird-watching and connects with the South Platte Trail, making it possible to travel by bike for over 20 miles from Golden to Brighton. A Watchable Wildlife Boardwalk is also set to be built over Bass Lake in the greenbelt. The lake is stocked with largemouth and smallmouth bass, as well as blue gill and crappie. Waterfowl, migratory birds, coyotes and foxes are often spotted at the 242-acre Crown Hill Park.

Children in Wheat Ridge attend Jeffco Public Schools, the state´s largest school district with more than 84,000 students and 131 neighborhood schools. Students at the local elementary schools benefit from innovative programs and support from parents and the community.
