Morrison Community Information

Located behind a hogback rock formation, Morrison has gained the nickname "The Nearest Faraway Place," for its remote mountain town atmosphere. The community, with a population under 1,000 people, is found 30 minutes west of Denver and located entirely within Jefferson County off of C-470 and Morrison Road. The average cost of real estate in Morrison is $164,500 for a condominium and $328,044 for a single-family home. Residents in Morrison often commute to work outside of the area, and benefit from the mix of business and industrial forces that spur economic development in Jefferson County.

The Morrison mailing address includes the scenic neighborhoods of Willow Springs and Willow Brook. Featuring semi-custom and custom homes, The Outlook at Willow Springs is just 20 minutes from Denver. It´s not uncommon to see elk or eagles from several of the local hiking trails. Elk have also been spotted on the greens of the 18-hole championship golf course at the Red Rocks Country Club. In addition to golf, the club includes "Catch and Release" fishing for Blue Gill, Perch, or Trout in the private Kingfisher Lake. The pool and cabana is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and features a heated swimming pool and zero-entry baby pool.

Morrison is home to numerous attractions that are popular among both residents and tourists, including Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater and nearby Bandimere Speedway. Highly acclaimed restaurants, boutiques and bed and breakfasts are found along Bear Creek Avenue. The 40-mile Lariat Loop, a Colorado Scenic Byway also intersects through the area, and features a glimpse at more than 150 million years of Colorado´s past. When it comes to Colorado´s pre-historic past, Morrison features several ways to explore the natural history at the Morrison Natural History Museum and Dinosaur Ridge. Kids of all ages will enjoy the Tiny Town Railroad, considered one of Denver´s oldest landmarks, with a history dating back to 1920. The popular mountain destination features a train ride powered by an authentic steam locomotive, and "kid-size" town to explore.

Outdoor recreation, by far, is one of the most popular activities in Morrison. Parks and trails are abundant in the Jefferson County Open Space that surrounds the town. The Bear Creek Trail connects bikers and hikers from Bear Creek Lake Park to Morrison. Mount Falcon Park includes several short trails that yield stunning views from any direction. Historically, the park was chosen as the location of a summer home for the Presidents of the United States and building began in the mid-1900s. The effort was led by local visionary, John Brisben Walker, also a magazine publisher and automobile entrepreneur. Walker himself built a stunning mountain castle that eventually burned to the ground in 1918. The remains of the stone walls and several fireplaces are still found on the park grounds today.
