Lafayette Community Information


With a history that dates back nearly 150 years, Lafayette (population 25,945) has grown significantly, yet still maintains its small town feel and signature Colorado living. Located northwest of the Denver Metro Area, real estate in Lafayette offers numerous housing options. Home prices range from $150,000 to more than $1 million. The average price for a condominium is $185,866 and the average price for a single-family home is $308,543. Tree-lined streets, parks and open space are common among all neighborhoods in the area. One of Lafayette´s premiere neighborhoods is Indian Peaks, a master-planned golf community where price ranges vary from the mid $300s to more than $1.5 million. The Indian Peaks Golf Course is considered one of the finest golf courses in the nation by Golf Digest Magazine.

Conveniently located near five major highways, Lafayette is just a 43-minute drive away from Denver International Airport on the E-470 Beltway. The easy access to I-25 and U.S. 36 provides a direct commute for residents that work in Denver and Boulder. Numerous businesses, though, are located in or near the Lafayette area. One of the largest employers in the area is the Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center. Several businesses also operate from the historic Old Town Business District - considered the heart of Lafayette. Lafayette is also creating a new town center redevelopment plan for an existing shopping center.

Lafayette celebrates its heritage with several social events throughout the year. "Celebrate Lafayette, held annually for the past 56 years is the city´s oldest community festival and features a parade and street fair. Other events include the Lafayette Chili Invitational hosted by the local fire departments, a Peach Festival including arts and antiques, as well as an annual Wine Festival. When the community isn´t gathering for special events, residents are often found taking advantage of an abundance of parks and open space. There are 236 acres of developed park land, including 14 neighborhood parks and four community parks, along with 1,200 acres of open space with trails, wildlife habitat and green belts. Nearby, Waneka Lake and other surrounding lakes offer boating and fishing, along with picnic areas.

Lafayette School Information

Students in Lafayette attend schools in the Boulder Valley School District. The district includes 28,500 students and consistently ranks at the top of Front Range schools according to state and national academic rankings. Lafayette´s diverse schools feature gifted and talented programs and pre-engineering programs for students in middle school and high school. Voters recently approved $300 million in capitol improvements to each of the 55 schools over the next six years.
