Genesee Community Information

Genesee is situated off of Interstate 70 near Evergreen, Lookout Mountain and Golden. Located in Jefferson County, it is about 30 minutes from Denver. The average cost of real estate in Genesee is $332,521 for a condominium and $582,989 for a single-family home.

Once known for agriculture and mining, present day Jefferson County is a mix of suburban, residential, business and industrial forces. Somewhat removed from the epicenter, a large number of residents commute to work outside of the area. Parks and trails, though, literally beckon from their front door. Open space filled with panoramic vistas, grassy meadows and forests are found nearby. Genesee residents live within minutes of numerous recreational activities, including: bird watching, golfing, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, and whitewater rafting, and are about an hour from several of Colorado´s best ski resorts.

One of the area´s most popular spots for recreation is Lookout Mountain and the Lookout Mountain Nature Center and Preserve. With sweeping views of the Denver metro area, Lookout Mountain is popular among cyclists, mountain bikers and hikers. Buffalo Bill Cody, a famous legend of the Old West known for his cowboy-themed shows, is buried at Lookout Mountain. His gravesite, and the Buffalo Bill Museum are one of the most visited attractions in the area. Boettcher Mansion, once a summer home to Charles Boettcher, a well-known business man, is also located on the grounds of the Lookout Mountain Preserve. The 92-year-old mansion, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, hosts year-round social and business events.

Located nearby in the foothills of Golden, Mount Vernon Country Club is one of Denver´s oldest, private clubs established 85 years ago. Throughout the years, significant efforts have been taken to maintain the club´s top-notch membership amenities, including tennis courts, a fitness facility, and swimming pool. The club also features monthly events, and is a popular venue for weddings.

Children in Genesee attend Jeffco Public Schools, the state´s largest school district with more than 84,000 students and 131 neighborhood schools. Nearby, several award-winning elementary schools have been recognized for the use of technology, after school enrichment programs and active parent-teacher committees. The library at Ralston Elementary has been ranked as a "Power Library" by the Colorado Department of Education.
