Brighton Community Information

One of Colorado´s fast growing communities, Brighton, pays tribute to its agricultural heritage and small town charm with a nod toward a sustainable future. Anchored by its historic main street, the city has invested $15 million on infrastructure and redevelopment efforts, as well as improvements to existing neighborhoods.

The city´s booming population of 35,000 has nearly doubled in the past 10 years, and given way to an increase in residential real estate and the construction of master-planned communities, such as Brighton Crossing, featuring single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and multi-family homes with front porches on tree-lined streets. Construction of single-family homes is also prevalent in The Village, Indigo Trails and The Preserve where lot sizes average more than 7,000 square-feet. Brighton homes average $127,104 for a condominium and $202,468 for a single-family home. Parks and schools are located at the heart of Brighton´s neighborhoods.

Such planning is no coincidence for Brighton, located 20-miles northeast of Downtown Denver, as it anticipates a continued influx of people. Over the next 20 years, the Denver Regional Council of Governments estimates Brighton will continue to grow at twice the rate experienced by the rest of the Denver metro area. In an effort to maintain small town traditions and celebrate a diverse ethnic population, several city-sponsored activities are planned throughout the year, including the Festival of Lights Parade and Culturefest - A Taste of Brighton, along with county fairs, rodeos and car racing. The mild climate makes it easy to enjoy year-round recreational amenities in Brighton´s 24 parks, 68 acres of recreational space and 30-miles of walking/nature trails. The community´s master plan eventually calls for all trails to be connected by pedestrian and bike paths providing safe alternatives for getting around by car. Nearby, Barr Lake State Park features a trail for nature hikes and horseback rides, and is home to the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory. Youth in the community often congregate at the skate park and youth sports complexes, while the state-of-the-art recreation center offers activities for the entire family. Riverdale Golf, encompassing two different public courses conveying two separate styles, is yet another way to enjoy the Colorado outdoors in Brighton.

The city of Brighton also hosts the Adams County Fair. The fair takes place every August and includes 4H clubs, parades and thrilling rodeo entertainment. Culture and ethnicity is displayed also through food where residents and visitors alike enjoy the locally owned Mexican diners along Main Street.

Poised for the 21st Century, more than 750 businesses have relocated here, bringing jobs and spurring economic development. In 2008, Vestas, the largest manufacturer of wind turbine systems in the world, broke ground on two new factories that will bring 1,350 new jobs to the area. The community also benefits from the newly unveiled Platte Valley Medical Center, a $138-million regional healthcare facility.

With its proximity to five major highways, including the E-470 beltway and I-76, Brighton provides easy access to Denver International Airport, Boulder and other northern cities and communities.

Brighton School Information

The Brighton School District serves 7,200 students in elementary, middle school, one alternative high school, two high schools and three charter schools. Renovations have also taken place at existing elementary, middle and Brighton High School buildings.
