Thornton Real Estate & Community Information

Located north of Denver and east of I-25, this growing community first settled in 1954 by veterans of World War II and their families, has experienced steady development over the years. According to the United States Census Bureau, Thornton is the twelfth fastest growing city in the country with a population of nearly 121,000. Younger, family-oriented people have discovered Thornton real estate offers affordable housing selections. In Thornton homes average $142,579 for a condominium and $203,088 for a single-family home.

Starting in the high $100s, Century Communities recently unveiled the Ranch Series at Veranda, a collection of four new ranch-style townhome models. The low-maintenance townhomes are built with basements and driveways that resemble single-family homes. Riverdale Peaks features one-acre home sites starting in the high $300s with finished basements and gourmet kitchens. Starting in the low and mid $200s, The Villages at Riverdale feature some of Richmond American Homes most popular designs. The neighborhood is located within walking distance of the Riverdale Golf Course and a recreation center is nearby. The Riverdale Golf Course, a Scottish-style links course, has been recognized as "One of America's Best Courses Everyone Can Play" and "Top 75 Public Courses" by Golf Digest; and "One of America's Most Affordable Courses", by Golf Magazine.

Thornton's other golf course is featured in Heritage at Todd Creek, the private, gated community for active adults, ages 55 and up. Built in 2007, the 18-hole Arthur Hills championship course is designed among wetlands, hills, lakes and 100-year old cottonwood trees. The Lennar Homes community features homes starting in the mid to high $300s. Other amenities include lighted tennis courts, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a library and a year-round calendar of social events and activities.

Residents find the city's direct access to I-25, E-470 and Highway 7 makes it easy to get to and from numerous destinations. There are also future plans for mass transit, as Thornton is included on the 18.1-mile "North Metro Corridor" line (expected to open in 2015) of the Regional Transportation District's FasTracks Program.

Economic development in Thornton is also attracting droves of new residents. The Denver Regional Council of Governments estimates the creation of 60,000 jobs in Thornton along the E-470 beltway will create a "fourth major economic area within the Denver region". Commercial developments, including the Larkridge Regional Retail Center, also have been built to serve the growing community. Larkridge includes a Costco, Sears and several popular restaurants.

In Thornton, new and old residents support the environment, arts and culture, and gather annually to celebrate traditional community events, including Thorntonfest and Harvest Fest. The city also hosts an annual summer concert series and other year-round special events. With over 1,200 acres of parks, open space and recreational facilities, it's easy to enjoy the great Colorado outdoors. The city recreation centers also offer activities - from youth and adult sports leagues to Teen nights and aquatics fitness programs.
