Lakewood Real Estate & Community Information

Located west of Denver and boasting spectacular mountain views you'll find Lakewood, Colorado. Comprised of well-known communities that include Alameda, Applewood, Bear Creek, and Green Mountain, Lakewood has experienced history and culture as well as growth and redevelopment that has kept the area thriving. Home to more than 140,000 residents, Lakewood real estate provides affordable options for all budgets. The average price of a condominium is $160,054 while the average price tag for a single-family home is $252,317. Nearby, the new community of Solterra features ranch patio floor plans with the coveted five-star plus certification from Energy Star Homes. Single-family and patio homes start in the $400s and luxury homes begin in the $900s.

In Lakewood, several redevelopment projects are spurring economic regeneration. One of the biggest is the new St. Anthony Medical Campus, formerly St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver. When completed in 2011, it will be Lakewood's first hospital and is expected to create 2,415 jobs. Along with its current services, the new St. Anthony Medical Campus will specialize in neurology, neurosurgical services, women's services, cardiology and orthopedics.

The 100-acre redevelopment site at Belmar includes 22 blocks of retail, entertainment, office space and residential homes. Belmar includes one-bedroom lofts, five-bedroom row homes with the option to customize shape, size and other amenities located 10 minutes from downtown Denver and 30 minutes from the Denver Technological Center (DTC). Another retail destination in Lakewood is found at Colorado Mills, where there are 200 outlets for brand name shopping, themed restaurants and entertainment options.

Lakewood also is part of the Regional Transportation District's FasTracks program, and will feature seven stations that provide access to high-speed light rail. Lakewood's "West Corridor", a 12.1-mile commuter line that connects the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver and the Jefferson County Government Center in Golden, is expected to open for service in early 2013.

Despite significant changes throughout the years, Lakewood still honors its artistic and historical roots with the Lakewood Cultural Center and the Lakewood Heritage Center. Established in 2000, the Cultural Center features national and international artists, as well as performances from local schools. It includes a 300-seat theater, community room, gallery and classrooms for teaching. Located in Belmar Park, the Lakewood Heritage Center provides an interesting glimpse of history. Take a visit into mid-20th century Lakewood with a tour of Gil & Ethel's Beauty Shop or a 1948 Valentine Diner on one of the many tours the Heritage Center provides.

Much is to be explored in Lakewood for the outdoor enthusiast as well. Within the city, there are 1,200 acres and 98 parks and counting. The largest of Lakewood's parks is Bear Creek Lake Park spanning 2,600 acres. Bear Creek Lake Park offers picnic sites, camping, a lake for fishing (stocked regularly with trout), horseback riding, trails for biking and hiking, swimming, boating and wind-surfing. The second largest park in the city is Green Mountain. This park features steep terrain and multiple use trails including the Green Mountain Trail Loop.

In addition, the city also features four recreation centers and two golf courses. Fox Hollow Golf Course, a 27-hole championship course operated by the city includes three 9-hole courses; and Homestead Golf Course offers two nine-hole courses, the "Prairie Nine" and the "Mountain Nine".
